Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to a musical family on the 9th of August, 1963 in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel superstar Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and cousin of singing star Dionne Warwick. As a young girl, Houston began singing professionally in the church choir. Houston sang the backing vocals for Chaka Khosn's song from 1978 Im Every Woman with her mother. Her mother, Jermaine and Lou Rawls were some of those who she sang with. Also, she was as a model for Seventeen magazine in the year 1981. The high quality of her performance as the featured vocalist of New York funk group Material attracted the attention of several major record companies including Arista who she was signed in 1982, and was with them for the rest of her career. In 1985, the debut of Whitney Houston turned out to be the best-selling debut album of all time. Songs like The Most Beautiful Love of All, How Will I Know If You Give Good Love or the song Saving All My Love were all released from the album. These songs helped Houston to achieve seven US top tens that surpassed even those of the Beatles. The album sold 3 million copies during its initial year, as well as 25 million around the world. Dana Bash (also known as Dana Ruth Schwartz) is a CNN anchorwoman and reporter for the political section of CNN. In the past, she has created shows for the network, such as Evans & Novak' Late Edition' and Inside Politics'.
